Focusing-Oriented Therapy Applications
24th, 25th and 31st of May 2025 (three-day workshop)
If your everyday practice is to be open to all your emotions, to all the people you meet, to all the situations you encounter, without closing down, trusting that you can do that – then that will take you as far as you can go. And then you’ll understand all the teachings that anyone has ever taught.” – Pema Chodron
When facing life’s challenges, we often find ourselves overwhelmed by emotions—or disconnected from them entirely. In Focusing-Oriented Therapy (FOT), we take a moment to pause with an intense emotional experience, allowing a fresh, whole-body sense and understanding of it to emerge. This process helps us step beyond familiar judgments of emotions as ‘good’ or ‘bad’ and shift into a deeper, present-moment awareness.
Experiencing is more than just feeling—it’s where we discover what truly matters and where new meaning unfolds.
Unlike most medical and psychological approaches that seek to determine and dignose pathology (such as anxiety, depression, or grief), FOT focuses on the client’s unique, lived experience within the context of both individual tendencies (nature) and interpersonal influences (nurture). As Gendlin (1996) wrote, psychotherapy is “the client’s process, rather than a type of procedure” (p.178). With that view, this workshop invites you to explore:
🔹 Emotional awareness and flow – Learn to approach emotions with openness and presence, restoring a natural life-forward movement.
🔹 Deepening emotional processing – Gain insight into the layers and functions of emotions like fear, anger, guilt, and sadness, and uncover the needs beneath them.
🔹 Transforming anxiety and depression – Understand emotional patterns and develop a process-oriented approach to healing.
🔹 Navigating grief and addiction – Discover how FOT offers a compassionate, embodied way to work with loss and addictive cycles.
🔹 Healing shame – Recognise and transform shame, one of the most detrimental emotional states underlying mental health challenges.
This workshop provides practical tools and insights to help you navigate emotions in a way that fosters growth, resilience, and transformation—both for yourself and your clients
